Latin American films have just been blowing me away lately for some reason. I think it's because they're so the antithesis of your typical hollywood shitpile.
The other day I watched "Sweet Home Alabama" and almost threw up half way through. The thing that really bothers me is that I'm, pretty sure this was the number one movie in America for awhile. That scares the shit out of me.
Yesterday, however, I received karmic retribution for having to sit through that Alabama evilness.
I went to see "Talk to Her" which was an absolutely amazing Spanish film about. . . well about a lot of things, but there was this girl in a coma and a female bullfighter and a huge fake vagina and a tiny tiny man and lots of ballet. It was beautiful. I was the only person in the theater and that magic that envelopes you when you're watching a good movie was so thick. . . Man, it was just amazing.
Then I came home and started reading "Norwegian Wood" by Haruki Murakami and that book is flooring me every time I turn a page. Really really good. Then I watched Donnie Darko for the second time and was impacted by it on a repeat veiwing as I was the first time I saw it. I don't know.
I was just constantly amazed yesterday, which is a pretty awesome state of mind to be in.
