Well, I did go back to get some more pics, both in the morning (they weren't about for long) and again this evening, in some nice evening sun. Water Voles are fully protected by UK law, as they have declined by about 95% in the last 50 years (part of this decline is down to predation by mink, many of which were released by animal rights activists - there's irony for you!).
