Venting... And I may not be politically correct on this!
I had interviewed for a job a few weeks ago as a Counselor with a Federal contractor in my area.
I ended up having three different interviews during their job fair and was told I would be called in again for a fourth and possibly final interview the next week.
At the end of that week after my interview, I called to make a follow up call as I hadn't heard anything, got the run around until I was finally told to leave a message for the HR manager. And I did so.
No reply, so I did the same the following week with the same lack of response.
I saw in last week's local paper they did a feature on the front page about a younger African American guy who is going to get his Bachelor's degree in Social Work. He was cutting hair for a living while going to college.
Care to guess which position he got? Yup the one I had interviewed for!
This guy had no experience in the field (I have 16 years of post Master's experience). He doesn't have a Social Work license ( I have a social work and Counseling License). But he is 20 years younger than me and African American.
So the question is: Am I too white or too old? I know I've been out of the field for four years, but my skills and knowledge are still intact!
