Well, it seems Fred is Dead *sigh*
I guess i can't be too disappointed, i mean, how long are wolf spiders supposed to live for anyways? Still, i have this sneaking suspicion that one of my cats might've eaten him (i'm looking at YOU Cleo, if you are reading this!!) It was nice to have him though--a few weeks ago i was cleaning by the corner between my bathtub & the sink, & that's when i spotted little Fred, a black wolf spider just bigger than a quarter. He froze when i saw him--you know how spiders always seem to know when you are looking at them? Admittedly, spiders freak me out, but i have a lot of respect for them so i really don't want to be afraid of them. So i just let him be, i could see that he had made himself a nice little home behind this orange rubber ball in the corner, about the size of a tennis ball, & it would've been to hard for me to catch him anyways. Over the next couple of weeks i just got more & more used to him being there; i got used to coming into the bathroom & seeing him hanging out there on top of the orange rubber ball. I got used to reasoning with myself that no, he wasn't going to run over & crawl all over my feet & up my leg when i stood at the sink to wash & brush my teeth. He just liked being there. At one point, he was sitting out in front of the ball, & i tried to catch him with a cup, but he ran back in a hurry, back behind his rubber ball house, as if to say "no, please! i wanna stay!! don't make me go!" & i felt bad for trying to make him go outside.
I didn't see him there the other day, & the ball had been moved a couple inches from where it had been. Today i went back to clean the little corner & saw that he was in fact gone. Cleo had expressed interest in eating him last week, but he was quick to get away, & her food dish had been empty so i just thought if i kept it full the cats wouldn't go for him. But i dunno. Cats are cats, they see something small moving, they wanna 'play' with it until it becomes an edible treat. Either way, i knew he was just visiting, & wouldn't be there long. I do miss him though, & i just can't bring myself to move the little orange rubber ball now. Who knows? Maybe i'll get another 8 legged visitor who'll need a place to crash...Bye bye Fred
