Bubba Hotep has to be one of the most daring movies I have ever seen. This movie goes to a plce mainstream hollywood would never have the guts to enter.
Veiled under the guise of a goofy horror/comedy is a true heartfelt story. Bruce Campbell plays Elvis, not young Elvis or old Elvis, but rather an Elvis lost to this world. In an attempt to live a normal life again the King switched places with an impersonater, but the impersonater died and the real Elvis had lost his way of proving who he was.
And this is what the movie is really about; it explores the mind of a man who was once American royalty and lost it all. He is broken and stuck in a nursing home, cut off from his daughter and his only true love Priscilla.
Bruce Campbell does an excellent job of hitting the emotional core of the audience. He reflects on mistakes made and loves lost.
I recomend this movie to anyone who is a Bruce Campbell fan. I demand anyone who calls themselves a film afficianato to see it
