Well, all I can say is that not being accepted as an SG doesn't mean nobody likes them. Hell, it doesn't even mean SG doesn't like them. I know girls who have had sets rejected several times before getting one accepted. I think the fact that they have other outlets, like the ones I mentioned before, for girls who either don't want to be SGs or can't, for whatever reason and want to shoot some artistic (or, in many cases, not so artistic) pics and get them posted, with or without feedback, means they're accepted by the site.
I don't think that SG should be under any obligation to pay anyone just because they can send in decent quality sets. That just doesn't make any sense. To that end, I think SG is doing everything it can possibly be expected to do within reason to help everyone feel accepted, even if they aren't paying everyone.
To be sure, there really are people who are lacking in social skills of any sort; people who are rude, witless, and cruel. I don't think there's anything wrong with excluding them. The SG community does a pretty good job of including and encouraging everyone who doesn't have a major character flaw of some sort, and even some who do. I think that speaks volumes for the site as a whole, since the community is a huge part of the site.
Stick around for awhile, get involved in the community, join some other groups, join your regional group (you have to be active on the site and come to an open event to get in, since they don't want crazy stalker-types in the group, but SGSF is one of the best, most active regional groups around), and you'll see that it's really not as much like high school as it seems at first, especially when you notice that people who you would never, ever, ever see hanging out together in high school are going to events together.

Sorry about that.
