With the passing of him today, its a bit of a sad note for me. His Discworld series were beyond a doubt some of the most hilarious and entertaining books to read. How I discovered him is a bit of an amusing tale as well. An ex of mine had given me his book "Going Postal" as a birthday present. Considering the title, I took the book, looked at it, then looked up at her, and honesty was a bit pissed about it. I took it as her subtle way of trying to say I was going crazy, and wasn't thrilled about it. Oh well, so much for that rocky relationship.
Months passed and I never cared to look at the book, but I never tossed it out. One day before going on duty, I picked it up and took it with me. Eventually when the day had slowed down, I dug it out of my cargo pocket, found a decent spot in the shade at the motor pool, and started to read. Despite the unbearable Texas heat, I didn't stop reading until one of my soldiers slapped me on the shoulder and told me its getting close to being time to form up. I've read many more Disc World books since.
Thank you Mr. Pratchett for providing me with so much happiness, your books definitely helped brighten my day time after time again.
