I think I'm gonna love my job.
I'm good! I know my stuff better than I thought. It feels good to have a job again.
huh. I don't think it occurs to most of you who read my journal here, that I've not really had a JOB, working for someone, punching a clock since 1997.. I've owned a bar, still own a plumbing company with my mister and played mommy/wannabe writer all this time.
so yeah, having a Schedule, PUNCHING A CLOCK.. . worrying about dress code, not just taking off to the desert on any given saturday, making sure kid is picked up from school, all of it ..I'm sure some of you deal with ALL the time
is just freaking WEIRD to me.
but very cool too. I sort of forgot how under-valued one feels when they have such a loosely structured life. I'm feeling damn snappy of late.
My first day on the floor was Friday. I STUNNED 2 customers. one in particular didn't beleive I was in the Plumbing department...tried to test me by asking a question, using pretty plumber specific questions...when I responded with a
"did you want enameled steel or vitrious china?"
what? assuming I would know nothing because I'm a woman?
Found some solid looking dickies. black, one pair has flap pockets on the back, flared legs. another has no pockets, flared legs...both are lowrise.
it's casual there, everyones friendly, down to earth and FUNNY. I love people involved in the building industry.
so yeah...loving the job. working tomorow, 11-3, all next week are 6, 7, and 8 am shifts.
