Okay....so another good night at work. I worked our segregation tonight w/ one of my buddies. Kept quite busy as the inmates were cell cleaning while I passed them along all the supplies.
One thing I take pride in is having a good repoir (SP?) with the inmates I work with. We have a very high turnover rate in our facility and these are not your ordinary white collar criminals. We're talking dudes facing multiple life sentences, mob leaders, cartels, gang leaders, bank robbers, rapists, child porn dudes (touchers we call them), guys with multiple assaults on police and correctional officers, etc. I'm not telling you this to make me sound hardened or tough, I'm telling you this b/c for at a minimum 5 days a week I deal with these individuals. They are the people that see me more than my family and friends. But I am there to do my job and go home.
So tonight while working our seg unit (we call the hole), I had medical call me stating they need me to pull an inmate out of his cell to check vitals. This inmate has multiple assaults on staff, has been on a hunger strike for 6 days, and has had multiple cell extractions (where you see the guys in full riot gear go in and remove an inmate from his cell). So he knows I don't bullshit but he knows I'm not out to "get him". Whenever I see this inmate, I (like I do every other inmate) ask he/she how they are doing, how's their case going, and if I know they have family, how they're doing.
I tell this inmate, "Hey XXXXXXXX, I gotta pull you out so Nurse XXXXX can check your blood pressure and weight" This dude has a good 150 pounds on me and had to wake him from sleeping lol. He responds, "No problem boss, just let me get dressed". The Lt. has to be present when this inmate is removed from his cell and usually we never remove a hand or two from this inmate. The Lt. and medical arrive, I tell the inmate, "aight man time to cuff up", he complies and the whole thing goes smoothly. After we get him back in his cell the Lt. states that's the first time that she's ever seen that inmate comply and not bitch one time. LOL.....this is the part of my job I love.
So I have to work 6 days this week, b/c another Lt. asked me to come in on my day off and fill a spot in the visiting room, so I said sure why not. The money is good and while I don't need the money....I need the money. I have too many expensive hobbies lol.
But this weekend (or yet...my days off) should be fun. Got some plans made and hopefully all goes smooth. Plus my buddy Seth and I are planning to see Transformers and Xmen back to back.
Also....ahhh my beloved St. Louis Cardinals. Way to go guys and Alberto, you da man. Albert hit walk off homers two consecutive games in extra innings to help sweep the flubs (Chicago Cubs). What a great series it was!!!
So I'll leave you with a little vid recap of the 2nd walk off homer from El Hombre, and also a shot of me I took the other day.
Albert Pujols second walk off homer!!!
