Lifted from Aponia's journal.
1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
I had my boobs painted and pressed to a sheet... and so did my mom.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make resolutions. If I do, I certainly don't mark it with the end of December. This time of year is depressing enough.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes! My sister had a beautiful daughter, and I got to watch her birth. I missed an SG Kickball game that evening, too.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No... I am lucky there.
5. What countries did you visit?
No countries but my native USA. But I travelled to New Orleans and to Key West, so that's not shabby.
6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
More free time. Someone to hold me.
7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 1st, because that's the day my niece was born.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I quit my dayjob and went back to college. After the depression of last winter, I am amazed that I had the motivation to accomplish anything.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Failure to wake up on time. Repeatedly.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I fell once on my stairs, but the lovely bruises were worth it. Oh... and the battle wounds from that one night in Gadget's parking lot. Do they count?
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My digital camera. It captures my life so I can't argue its beauty. Look at the kind of things I do: Canoeing in March!
12. Any brushes with fame?
Nope.
13. What did you do for money?
For the first half of the year, I had a nine-to-five job that made me miserable and a part time job that kept me busy. Now I have two part-time jobs, and I am broke but happy.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Bars. They are fucking expensive. I should just sit home and drink.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My ladybug costime. That was awesome.
16. What songs will always remind you of 2004?
Peaches "Fuck the Pain Away", because it is an SG Burlesque song which reminds me of my wonderful online community.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier
ii. thinner or fatter? I'll say thinner, because it was over last fall and winter that I lost about 40 lbs, even if most was in the fall.
iii. richer or poorer? less poor because I paid off some credit debt, but poorer if you count the student loans.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I'd invited people over more.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Wasting time in front of the computer or TV when I could be doing responsible things like cleaning or studying or organizing my apartment so people could come over.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
Christmas Day- working. But before and after that day, I spent lots of time with family and friends.
21. There is no question 21. I don't know why. It got lost, I guess.
22. Did you fall in love in 2004?
No, but I fell in crush a few times. None of the crushes developed into anything. Still fighting a few of those. They're not as strong now, though.
23. How many one-night stands?
Heh... this is the fun part. Let's count. Four boys, two girls. Plus two or three halfway-there "relationships" that fizzled out before they caught hold. I was more active this year than I've been before. And what do I have to show for it? Nothing. A few booty calls, I guess, if I'm desperate.
24. Best place you had sex?
Back of my car. I didn't know then that the car would be wrecked less than a month later. Good thing we claimed it first.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't generally hate people. I'm too forgiving. Remember I got in a fight in September? I found out the guy had scratches all over his face and was bleeding through his shirts for weeks. I don't feel bad for that... he deserved it... but I can't say I hate him. He's really not worth it.
26. What was the best book you read?
"Drop City" by T. C. Boyle
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I went through a White Stripes phase... that was all I listened to for months.
28. What did you want and get?
My car. It's a 1993 Buick Century Wagon, with wood paneling. I walked and rode my bike everywhere for a month before I found the car I needed to buy.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. No question.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Went to see Citizen Cope with my best friend, went to 2 bars that sucked, wrecked my car on the way home. I'm 27.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Oh, come on. You know what I'm going to say. I'm like a fucking broken record.
More morning sex.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
Smaller shirts. Tight, dark blue jeans. Shorter hair. The new, thinner me had a distinctly different wardrobe. Even my colors changed from the old brown-orange-green to a more cheerful red-yellow-orange-blue scheme. I even have a couple of pink shirts. I've definitely gotten more girly. I even dyed my hair bright, and I use hair products. This is a different Goob from last year.
34. What kept you sane?
My friends. Without people, I am miserable.
35. Out of 10 - how would you rate 2004?
7
36. Where do you think you will be this time next year?
Same place. It's where I am between now and then that's the question.
37. Who did you miss?
This sounds strange... but I missed my sister, who didn't go anywhere for most of the year because of the baby. Family gatherings and Folk Fest and camping trips and everything... It was hard to go without her, and know she really wanted to be there.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
I can't say I met anyone in particular who knocked my socks off (aside from the crowds of awesome people here on SG), but there were plenty of people I got to know better. The best person there is Aragorn97. What an awesome dude. He's way up top of the Goob's Favorite People list.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004:
Spend more time with friends. Talking helps.
There is no number 40. I feel like there ought to be... what more is there to ask?
This was fun to fill out because it made me think back. A year is a long time... I tried to include the whole year, and not just fill out answers that apply to the last few months. It's been a pretty good year, overall. Maybe 2005 will be even better. I think it will be.
