this is just so strange, a man who killed 29 people wants to help someone live.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) A judge has agreed to allow New Jersey's worst serial killer to donate a kidney, but the donor and his doctors have to meet conditions.
Superior Court Judge Paul W. Armstrong did not say when Charles Cullen might undergo the operation to remove one of his kidneys to be transplanted into the relative of a friend.
Cullen has admitted killing 29 patients with drug overdoses at nursing homes and hospitals in Pennsylvania and New Jersey in one of the worst murder sprees ever discovered in the U.S. health care system. He has been sentenced to 18 life terms.
The judge's order, signed Thursday, stipulates that all operation costs must be paid by the recipient's insurer.
Also, the surgery to remove Cullen's kidney must happen in New Jersey at a hospital certified by the state Department of Corrections, and the doctors who perform the operation must be certified by the state Board of Medical Examiners.
Cullen, 46, had tried for four months to reach an agreement with prosecutors in New Jersey and Pennsylvania to win permission for the donation.
His lawyer, Johnnie Mask, told The New York Times that the requirements made him "suspicious that someone in the Department of Corrections or at the Attorney General's Office does not want this to happen," the Times reported Saturday.
New Jersey Attorney General's Office spokesman John Hagerty said the requirements reflect the fact that they are for "a serial killer who is not free to travel willy-nilly."
Cullen escaped the death penalty after agreeing to help prosecutors identify his victims. He pleaded guilty to seven counts of murder and three of attempted murder in Pennsylvania, and in New Jersey to 22 murder and three attempted-murder counts.
He claimed to have killed 40 patients over a 16-year nursing career, and has said he killed out of mercy. Not all of his victims, however, were old or very sick.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) Police charged a university official after he allegedly bit a man in the calf when the man stopped to help him after a car accident.
Robert E. Mays, 64, an associate dean at the University of Southern Indiana, was charged with battery and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was released from Vanderburgh County jail on a $100 bond.
A telephone message seeking comment was left Wednesday at his home in Evansville.
Mays was driving on U.S. 41 in northern Evansville Tuesday night when he hit a vehicle in front of him, according to police reports. No one was injured in the wreck.
A passer-by who stopped to check on Mays tried to stop him from returning to his car. Mays then bent down and bit the man's calf, leaving a bruise and teeth marks, police said.
Police said Mays refused to take a breath test.
The university was not aware of the arrest and was not sure if Mays would be disciplined, said spokeswoman Sherrianne Standley. He has been at the school since 1973.

ATASCADERO, Calif. (AP) A retired salesman alleged a stripper and her friend beat and robbed him in his home. John Skinner, 54, said he was on his way to Bible study on Jan. 23 when exotic dancer Maureen Murphy, 25, knocked on his door and offered him a free strip-o-gram.
Murphy said a friend had already paid for the show, police said.
When Skinner agreed to let her perform, knife wielding Richard Adam, 23, allegedly forced his way inside and told Skinner he owed Murphy, owner of Bikini Assassins, and another woman money for earlier services.
Skinner said he owed Talbert money for sex one time but not for a previous time when he said she fell asleep before they could have sex.
Adam allegedly tied up Skinner and hit him in the face. Investigators said Murphy went upstairs to find valuables and returned with thong underwear and medication for erectile dysfunction.
The pair allegedly tried to take Skinner's car, but it was out of gas.
Prosecutors charged three people in the case.
Adam was charged with robbery, burglary and inflicting great bodily injury. Exotic dancer Leslie Talbert, 20, was charged with two counts of burglary and Murphy, 25, was charged with robbery, burglary, false imprisonment and battery. A preliminary hearing will be held March 23.

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (AP) Tondalayo, a 45-year-old Sumatran orangutan, and T.J., a stray tabby cat, became an inseparable duo after a zoo employee introduced them late last year.
Stephanie Willard, Education Director at Zoo World in Panama City Beach, said Tondalayo was depressed since losing her mate two years ago.
Her age prevented her from moving to another zoo or taking another mate. The ducks and turtles swimming in a moat around her island were not enough, Willard told the Panama City News Herald for Thursday's editions.
When the sweet-natured orange cat wandered into Willard's life, the solution became clear.
"It's an unbelievable match," Willard said. "This has worked out a lot better than I expected it to. She's got brighter eyes now. He's brought a lot of light to her."
Zookeepers named the cat, T.K. short for "Tondalayo's Kitty."
They play together, cuddle and sleep together each night. They have been together constantly for more than a month.
"He's perked up Tonda more than anything," Willard said.
