ah, back in the cool, sweet, not-incredibly-sticky environs of home. Flew in at sunset, drove back along the viaduct to remind myself what I'd been missing. Lake Michigan is nice and all, but give me Puget Sound any day of the week.

Now for 3 days of furious work and drink* before I take off again. Who wants to help with the drink part of...

The sunsets are beautiful, the air is humid, the s'mores are gooey and our cabin was nearly struck by lightning last night. Good times.

Remember when my car's license plates were swapped and i had to go get new ones? Unfortunately, the saga will not die. The person using my stolen (expired) plates got a ticket for having expired plates... for which I just a notice and bill, with a threat to go to collections for non-payment. Apparently, even when you get new plates because yours have been stolen,...

Excellent! (on the poker hands that is. wink)

As for the car, I am thinking something like $4000-$5000 and I would like to get a light truck or small fuel efficient car.

Never underestimate the restorative powers of Cheerios and cold milk. I mean, I still smell like I was in a forest fire and my head throbs a bit, probably as karmic payback for accidentally finishing off Al's whiskey, but it's a step in the right direction. My next step is down the street to Macrina (sans cowboy hat today) for some coffee and some quiet,...

Accessible history is for suckers.

Then again I love obtuse and obfuscating historical treatises. I believe the best ones are the ones that say: here is this, you should know x and y already so fuck all y'all if you don't.

no worries, i'm sure i'll be back and i wont be quiet and stand in the corner!

I've been sorting through the heap of work that inevitably piles up during a long absence (despite carrying the laptop along for the vacation), and can't quite seem to get into it with any urgency. I'd like to, and I need to, but damn, it's just not going to happen. At least today. I'll manage to build up my resolve over the weekend and hit...

It is sunny and hot. I've been rubbed down with tequila, had a canary perch on my balcony and eaten breakfast under a palm tree, all with an occasionally-clothed beauty by my side. The surf awaits. Life is good.

I stopped by Uwajimaya after a press check at the printer across the street Friday morning, looking for cool Japanese packaging and, more importantly, delicious bits of Janglish. Some of my more impressive finds:

On gummy fruit packaging:

Its translucent color so alluring and taste and aroma so gentle and mellow offer admiring feelings on a graceful lady. Enjoy soft and juicy Kasugai Muscat Gummy....

The guy only had 7 outs and there was no low hand. I don't know what he was thinking when he called my second full pot bet. I know pot odds we really against him.

My ass is on fire. Or, more accurately, my sciatic area is snugged against an inferno-like heating pad. Apparently, I lifted one too many heavy things yesterday. Or lifted them incorrectly. Or Mars and Neptune aligned. In any case, I can't tie my shoes.

I've noticed the tendency at altitude before, but never had a chance to really eliminate the exertion factor - I've always been at altitude for just a day. I knew this going up, so Muir was kind of an experiment of sorts... (I know, great experiment).

If I'm not meant to be at altitude, I can live with that... 'cause there are plenty of other opportunities around here to do what I like doing. Just glad I'm finding out now instead of at 12,500 ft. when my heart explodes and my buddies have to drag my body down... wink

just packing my car up ... which is in acura... which is almost harder because i dont know what to get rid, leave and bring. oh dear

Finally caught up (kinda) from the trip to Chicago; flying American must be a pretty good approximation of flying in a military transport: no food, no entertainment.

Luckily, Chicago welcomed us with open arms. It was a bit warm for our Northwest constitutions (mid-80s in April?!), but my sister's wedding was beautiful, my sister was beautiful, Piper was beautiful, the heavens opened and angels... okay,...

i just realized that I signed up to do portfolio reviews for an AIGA event the same day as my sister's wedding. This wouldn't have been a problem, since i'd be done with reviews by noon and my sister's wedding is at 6pm, if the wedding wasn't in Chicago. Damn. These events are the best ways to snag someone hot out of college for coffee-fetching......
