Ok so I had a really fucked up day. Took the day off work to volunteer with my friends from our local Reasource Conservation District and Natural Resource Conservations Service field office. An old woman had called my company a month ago about her house. It was falling into a creek, definetly as a result of upstream development and other factors. There was no way she could ever have paid for the repairs so me and the guys put together a team, took the day off, and got the fucker handled. So, to make a long story shot, I busted my ass like thunder with legs all day and we got the job done. I feel great about what I have done, but I have been feeling guilty about shorting my family a days pay which we absolutely desperately need right now.
And now I am reminded of how much I have changed from the man I was 3 years ago. And I am sick of it. It isn't my family, it is me. I have changed. And I am over it. Back to the old me. I worked like an absolute dog today and I never would have worked that hard at work. I did a great thing today. And it reminded me of how ridiculous people are.
To put it in perspective, to an extent, Gandlaf once said "Well, my lord Steward, it is your task to keep some kingdom still against that event, which few now look to see. In that task you shall have all the aid that you are pleased to ask for. But I will say this: the rule of no realm is mine, neither of Gondor nor any other, great or small. But all worthy things that are in peril as the world now stands, those are my care. And for my part, I shall not wholly fail of my task, though Gondor should perish, if anything passes through this night that can still grow fair or bear fruit and flower again in days to come. For I also am a steward. Did you not know?"
Keep in mind, the next time that you make a decision, that we are all responsible for everything that makes up our habitat. Try to contribute. Pick you employment well, and don't ignore the little things that create an opportunity for you to live. We are all stewards of communities. Those that we exist in and those of others. A man or woman is worth nothing more than the work he or she does in this life.
