Well, as of last Thursday, I'm a homeowner. In the U-District. On 11th. No parking for the wife's car. And communal laundry. But whatever, it's all fucking mine. No dishwasher, either.

This week, we've been packing, moving, unpacking, sorting, putting shit in storage, resting... getting used to road noise from 11th and 42nd... uh... helping the cats get over the trauma... and trying like hell...

That's two couples on 11th and 42nd now. Congrats on the new place!

Wait, there are other SG peeps in my building? Or at least across the intersection from me?

That's just hella cool. Hook me an introduction, please?

Well, here we are like... six months since my last post. What the hell? I suck.

Anyway, we've made offers on a house in the CD (which we dropped once the inspector told us about the foundation problems), and a high-rise condo in the U-District (which fell through because the bank said it wasn't worth that much, and wouldn't give us the loan for the...

So... the better half managed to get interviews with AT&T Wireless and Microsoft on Wednesday. Like... she got the Zipcar, drove out to Bothell for the AT&T interview, then did a phone interview with MS while sitting in their parking lot afterwards. Really, both of these are for outsource software dev companies on contract with AT&T and Microsoft. IWP (for AT&T) made her an offer...

And... we got it. Now we gotta do inspections and all that other crap. It's going to be a fun two months, between GETTING the house and then moving into the place.

I think what sucks the most is that we got rid of a bunch of our stuff when we moved out here from NC. I had this super-awesome desk that got busted by the movers. But it was big. Huge big. So big that we didn't have anywhere to put it, and I didn't want to have this stack of busted desk filling up my living room for the months it would take to get the movers to pay us for it.

So now we're going to have to repopulate the house with stuff.

I went onto Meetup.com. I found some groups I like. French Conversation. German Conversation. (Both with ethnic cuisine.) Backpacking (training for the dunes). Kayaking (training for the dunes). RPGs (just 'cause that's awesome and I AM NOT REPENTANT!) and one for the a theatre I'd liked going to earlier. Tempted to get into the photography ones, but I really just don't have the time these...

So, I was just over reading Hydrophilic's blog, and... he's clearly demonstrated to me that I'm totally being a hermit over here. I've been in Seattle for like 4 months longer than him, and other than the odd show (usually a play, or something where you're expected to just sit and watch without interacting with other people), I mostly don't get out a lot....

White Elephant is a must, then.

So, I went onto Meetup.com and got myself signed up to some groups. It was easy finding the really focused groups, like sea kayaking and RPGing. I'm not sure about the general "go someplace and just hang out" kind of groups. There was one for women only, and one for 20s / 30s couples. One for singles. One for people who want to explore their sexuality. But nothing for "kinda geeky people". Guess that's what the SG group is for?

So, this morning I got on a conference call for work. Started too early to go into the office first, so I did it from the house. At some point, I noticed that there was this amazingly gorgeous sunrise happening. I took pictures. I'm choosing to be thankful for the great opportunities that the job affords me, like the chance to see these awesome vistas,...

On Monday, we depart for Ashland. Seven plays in five days, plus a couple days on each end for travel and relaxing.

I love Ashland. We used to go there every summer when we lived in WA as a kid. And I took my girlfriend there eight years ago to show her around. That's where we got engaged. That's where we got our first...

Hope you had a good time at SteamCon. I've lived in Seattle for a few years now, and a reliable bike with the rare bus have gotten me everywhere I need to go. Good luck!
goatkiller666:
In fact, we got to Steamcon, spent like 30min trying to find the sing-up table (it was in the big atrium area that had big landscaping... I thought that was an outside place, so assumed there wouldn't be a table set up. But no, it was totally covered / heated, and lower than the hotel lobby, so I hadn't seen all the people milling around down there), then 30min standing in line, before we were told that some guy way ahead of us was the last one to get a ticket. They weren't allowed more than some number, for fire code reasons, and that guy was it.

We got to hang out in the vendor booth, where we got some stuff. We got to hang out in the art area, where we got 7 prints of some really cool stuff (and names / websites for yet still others, so we can hit them up later). Then we came home.

Really wish I'd gotten to see Abney Park and the other bands, though.

Well, we're here now. Seattle. Got an apartment in Queen Anne. Work has me set up with an office right across the street from the Seattle Center... so that's about a 1.5mi bus ride to get to work. We have the one car, but we almost never use it. Mostly just to take stuff to Goodwill or to get new furniture we need in the...

busses aren't too bad, but for some reason getting from queen anne to the u-district is unreasonably hard. you have to go downtown (opposite direction), then switch buses and go back the other way.

there aren't really any hills between u-district and queen anne though. unless you are in upper, that's a different story.

Okay, so... go check out Otaki and her new set d20. Totally nothing against the set, but... the thing that stuck in my mind was that she's reading the 3.0 version of the PG. Not the 3.5 version.

What the hell's wrong with me that THAT is the thing I notice? There's this awesome gorgeous chick IN A GAMING STORE, naked. What part of...

Fuck that. Pratchett was FIRST!

Actually, perhaps that was my mistake. D&D is a lot less esoteric than Discworld...
otoki:
Well, movies or not, D&D is something a lot more people know about (if only in the "eternal virgins playing make-believe" sort of way) than a UK-based fantasy series.

Shit, when the movie came out for Hitchhiker's guide, that was the first time lots of people had even heard of it. Discworld hasn't had any movies out in theaters, so there isn't much publicity for the series.

I did, however, get at least three people to start the series after they commented on my set, so I'm doing my partwink
