I will be working with shelters! I haven't contacted one yet because I am not yet healthy enough to regularly attend training sessions. And I want to really do my research and go with the best rescue organization I can. I would need an older dog not a puppy or young dog but one who is still healthy and strong, very calm, mellow, friendly and responsive who's need to busy themselves would have an appropriate outlet as a work dog for me--I need help picking things up from the floor for example--that exhausts and hurts me--and someone who's gonna alert people if I need help. You can find those personalities no matter the breed. In LA I feel like it'd be important to rescue a member of the most prominent crisis breed. And I intend to rescue rather than just apply for and then purchase a service dog. Lots of rescues have extensive training in their backrounds so with time and patience and luck for my health permitting the commitment this will be I can make it happen.

Ah, didn't get that you needed an older dog rather than a younger one to train to the purpose. Best of luck to you. It's awesome that you're willing to look for a bully...
