For you ladies out there, it often can be a little mystifying trying to figure out what a man is thinking or why we do some of the things we do. I had a great birthday weekend which culminated in a humorous conversation with my wife about some of my wandering thoughts.
1. If I tell you your legs don't feel like "Chewbaca" it is actually a compliment. I understand that in your mind being told you are not like a wookie is not quite what you wanted to hear, but it really was intended as a compliment, and I said it with a smile while laughing.
2. Many times I say and do things simply because I find them entertaining. They make me laugh or smile, and while at times you shake your head and wonder why I am doing it, refer back to the smile and laughter for an explanation.
3. Driving my tractor around the field with my dog meets all the criteria in item number 2, even if it seems odd to you. So does doing a massive burnout in my hot rod, drinking a cold beer, playing rock music very loud, or singing in the shower (even off key).
4. I find my wife fascinating, lovely, funny, interesting, sexy, frustrating, challenging, a bit crazy and incredibly important. I can feel all of this stuff at the same time, much like she does, but I don't necessarily feel like I have to explain it. Just take the hug and smile, or the smack on the butt. I just want you to know that I am thinking about you.
5. Turning a year older doesn't really have the importance it used to for me. The date doesn't matter much, but the opportunity for family and friends to gather and laugh together is what means the most. Believe me when I say I don't really care what I do on my birthday as long as my family is there. Grilling burgers and having beer was absolutely perfect.
Seize the day.
