Contrasting views of myself. Working as a firefighter and working as a business owner running a commercial real estate office. The personal fulfillment I had as a firefighter was immense and the friendships remain a lifelong benefit that is hard to get past. I retired from active duty at the end of 2019, and continued my job in commercial real estate being appointed President of the company January 1, 2020. The comparisons and contrasts of the two jobs is really crazy at times and while I find both incredibly rewarding, I really miss being with the fire department. My back doesnโt miss it, and I donโt miss getting up at all hours of the night to respond to calls. I also very much appreciate the income difference in the real estate profession. But I miss it.
