Although the scenery here in Santa Cruz is far superior to what I’m accustomed to back home in Texas, it was a more serious situation for my son, who is age 35, autistic and receives 24 hour care in his own place. I could see the coronavirus pandemic affecting his staff availability not to mention having eight different people rotating into his home each week who could possibly infect my son, so it made sense for me to step in for his primary care (a pure joy for his old man) and relieve some of the strain on the staffing agency. The employees will continue to be paid anyway. They still come in five times a week to give me a break for exercise and grocery shopping. How long will this go on? No idea, I think 6-8 weeks perhaps, but I feel better that my son’s chances are better now.
