So. Things I like:
good company, chillin' watching kids movies and drinking until 5 in the freaking morning but not caring.
things I dislike:
discovering that the grey water line is in fact shared across the units so being woken up at 8:30 by the roommate to be informed that about 2 bathtubs of water had fallen down through an open pipe onto the kitchen and then into the basement.
the story:
SPOILERS! (Click to view)
so anyhow, my bathtub has been draining slow and me, as a former maintenance worker of three years, am loathe to wait until monday for a plumber to be sent by the landlord. So I go and buy a snake, open up the access to the tub drain (kitchen roof, fyi) and snake out the pipe.
Success is had; the pipe is now clean. Unfortunatley, it became apparant when I put the drain back together that whomever last worked on the drain overtightened the p-trap's nut. As such it was cracked and would not create a no-leak seal, which is kinda important.
Fix #1-teflon tape. No go
Fix #2- epoxy repair. Still no go; not strong enough
Left open overnight for the epoxy to harden, as there had been no overflow making me think our lines were seperate from the neighbor's after all and I couldn't buy parts that late at night. I was wrong. This bring us to the 8:30am knock on my door.
Fix #3-epoxy repair but set longer. Still not good enough at all... but repair stores are now open
Fix #4-new p-trap... took me 2 runs to 2 stores to find the right part... ended up having to place the pipe to the wall as well because whomever did the pipes did it with pvc = joints glued in place=more work than copper.
So far, so good but it was a... busy day.
The worst part though? the water wasn't content to go to the kitchen. No... it kept on going into the basement. to pour on my 3+ thousand dollar upright. Thank god its case is water resistant... my heart kinda skipped when my roommate casually said "yeah... there's a lot of water downstairs... pouring onto your bass."
I have to mop my basement now as it is soap-scummy and gross... but at least the rest works.
Total cost? Less than a plumber, about a hundred more than free. At least now I have a ton of good materials should anything else break...
which brings me to:
things I like #2: homemade waffles in the morning...ish... with good company. Good company who is good enough to even tolerate a random drop-in by my parents for an hour or two.
