Wow... haven't updated in too long.
Afraid I don't yet have much to say otherwise. The weekend went as weekends are wont to; I now have a roommate moving in, for better or for worse. This means I have had to clean my basement which those who know me (or have been to my house) can imagine isn't all that pleasant.
I am being forced t oaccept that I am a pack rat. I hate throwing out boxes (returns and warrenties) and the downside of being computer science-inclined is more than a few cds kicking around. I think I have a setup which works... I've made myself a little faux-room in the basement... but my vanity still wishes I had proper "walls" instead of the cement foundation shit. Unfinished ceilings make me feel ecchy.
I had a most pleasing realization today at work. I was slaving away under a sink and I thought to myself "I could sure go for a milkshake." That was when it occured to me I had bought ice cream 3 days prior! Yay me.
My flower garden looks... like a garden. Given my dread of keeping a garden, this is a good first step.
I have been spoiled for my other basses. On choir tour I played exclusively on my acoustic bass, which I have came to love for the full, warm sound. I can't rock out quite so well but the fullness just makes me feel complete when I play it. This is complimented by my upright. The sound is HUGE (especially when using a bow) and the freedom and responsibility of a fretless makes it a whole new, fun/jazzy world.
Then I plug in my old electric basses and ask "gee... this sounds kinda shallow and metallic." A sad state of affairs because, ultimately, they sound that way because they are that way. My little thought of starting an east coast-style (or captain tractor style) band once again jumps ahead of my emo-rock perfect circle/chemical romance influenced band plans. Now if only these plans were going somewhere...
My laptop died. Specifically, the AC cord which feeds it life died. This might not seem too bad to most of you, with your 69 dollar power bricks on your laptops. Unfortunately, mine needs to supply 150 Watts, or twice what a standard brick supplies. Hence the $250 price tag. Unfortunately most of the time I have to code is when I'm not at home (due to, shall we say, a bit of free time at work and such) I needs me the laptop if I want to get and finish work as a coder in reasonable time.
Business expenses are only pleasant when the business is such that it can afford such setbacks.
Speaking of which, I've moved on from "Angry Kitty Software" to "Ninja Kitten Software" but I'm now considering the more meaningful "Echidna Software " or "Echidna Designs." Naming companies is no fun. I am still fond of "Ninja Kitten Software" but I don't know if anyone would choose that particular company first out of all the listings presented.
Finally, please someone in Edmonton design an overpass system in Edmonton such that I can get from my house to the University faster. I am greatly annoyed that I cannot go faster on a bike than my rollerblades due to all the traffic lights between these two points.
Oh yeah: 3 pictures from Canada Day.
