I just watched The Life of David Gale, and I was very impressed with that movie. It is a very good movie, it gets your attention and you never find out whats behind the whole story until the very end. I mean, I could never find out whats behind maybe because whats behind is not imaginable for a brazilian person. I am not sure, but maybe a person born in the US would imagine whats going on more easily than me. Cultural upbringing does make a difference on peoples perception.
This is a very american movie. Why do I think that? Not only because its directed by Alan Parker and stars one of my favorite actors, Kevin Spacey. But mainly because the film shows the story of people capable of dieing for a cause. Which is a very american thing.
Brazilian people are not fit to be martirs, because they love their lives more than they could ever love a cause. Of course we cant generalize, there are some brazilians that sure could die for a cause. But, for the most part, this kind of obsession with the way things should be is not a part of Brazilian culture. Not at all, let alone to the point where you consciously plan your (and your friends) death to prove your cause was right.
I am not saying anything more so not to spoil the surprise for those of you that havent seen the film. I definitely recommend it.
