So I did my first radio broadcast yesterday! (as an announcer.) It was just a short 15 minute music program, but hey, it's a start. I'm pretty sure I got the controls down, so next week should be smoother. It's great because I got a tape of it so I can listen to the little mistakes I made. (I forgot to do the station ID at the last minute and threw it in before we cut to the song and I kinda mumbled when I introduced the third song. Other than that, it went down pretty well.)
My director (the guy that was showing me how to work the equipment and is working the board for me until I can do it myself), Rick is a pretty cool guy. He is a great deal older than me so I was sorta nervous at what he was gonna think of my song choices. At first he was pretty quiet, but I soon came to realize that I was working with Bob Newhart's long lost cousin. He had an excellent dry sense of humor. While I was playing a track from Autechre's Draft 7.30 album, he started snapping his fingers and said, "Hey this is a catchy tune, you ever hear Sinatra's version of this?"
At that point I loosened up a bit. It was pretty much smooth sailing from there.
All in all, it was a fun, zesty experience and I can't wait to do it again next week.
w00t!
And now these words from the Public Radio Exchange and Girth Industries.
This next paragraph is brought to you by the Public Radio Talent Quest contest.
As per suggestion from miSs bEe JELLYFISH! I have entered the Public Radio Talent Quest contest. For those of you that don't know, it's a contest looking for the next public radio show host. I'd appreciate it if y'all would give me a listen and perhaps vote for me. bEe also has an entry, so you should give her a listen and a vote as well.
Listen to and Vote for me HERE.
Thank you
