hello hello!
how are you all? so sorry for not already knowing due to sg slackness!
i am on uni holidays but will work extra days at the cafe for the next two weeks. the manager has left for new zealand (remember i was worried about the whole business collapsing without her?) so i'll see how it goes. i have a loose plan though - a law banning smoking inside of pubs and clubs comes into effect across the state on july 1 (coincidentally my month-long break between uni semesters), so after that date i will try to find work in a venue that has live bands, to gain some relevant experience. although i'm sure the best i will find is a shit-kicker busboy type job, it seems only relevant to have a part-time job that relates to the degree i'm studying.
last weekend my excellent friends the Pints came down from brisbane to start their east coast tour. due to bands and venues pulling out all over the place the whole thing was a complete shambles but anyway, of the three shows they had in melbourne, one was crap, one was ok and one was completely awesome. however they made no money from any of them and could barely afford to make it to the next city. i felt so bad for them but they promised to organise their next tour with me taking exclusive control of the melbourne leg. this puts a fair amount of pressure on me to deliver but i'm confident i had an awesome time hanging out with them regardless, made them vegan dinner and all
speaking of vegans, some more friends from brisbane in the form of Bad Day Down and b2's beautiful girlfriend Kate are in melbourne for a week, yippee! i will be catching them for a show on saturday and at least one vegan meal before wednesday this makes me very happy!
it also makes me happy that i saw Flogging Molly last night! i had a three-way date with my friends Alice and Rachel before the show. we ate vegan dinner in the city, checked out an art gallery opening (way too packed, we left straight away), saw a free John Butler Trio show, rode a ferris wheel and ate popcorn by the river then i headed to the flogging molly show by myself and quickly found lots of friends, some of whom i hadn't seen in over a year! it was a fantastic night, i was in the thick of the pit the whole set and i am so bruised now! it was a bad choice of position really as i would have preferred more room to dance and enjoy the watching the entire band's stage magic. but they were so friendly and lovely - i chatted with them after the encore and we were heading out to a club but it didn't really happen. definitely a band to catch live!
that's all for now, i've got to doll up and head out for dinner with my man and his Spent Shells then a big show tonight. i hope i last at work tomorrow morning!
best wishes to all, xox jen
ps. i just found that one of my my favourite suicidegirls since i first checked out the site has been archived. i had no idea she was leaving. i will miss you so much Alexsandria, but i will always have the necklace you made me. best wishes for everything.
