the true story:

we had escaped. somehow in a borrowed car, on borrowed time we had sped free of the new age zombies, and found ourselves shuffling under flourescents. stevie wonder, sweet musak to our ears as we gazed in awe at aisles filled with sugar, refined with all the glory of the american machine. they called it, "grand union", a term with which i had never crossed syllabic paths. oddly fitting. i saw gum, and chips, and caffeinated soda, beer... then the cereal aisle beckoned like some twinkling far off emerald city, and with my tin man and scarecrow we stumbled down the linoleum road. suddenly, the camera was gleaming, two of us stood captured in the moment, clutching our treats like children soon to be orphaned. he clutched me like a trailer park bride, and you my friends are missing the offscreen leer.
we left emptyhanded.
