The one thing my mother has always been "old-fashioned" about is callused, cracked and dry feet. She'll actually inspect your feet and tell you it's time for a pedicure.
So here I sit with my feet in a bucket full of epsom-salty, soapy water, waiting to plane away my calluses and corns, and file and pumice away all the ugliness from my feet. I'm partly doing it now because I see her tomorrow, but the other part of me does it because the obsession has thoroughly made its way into my brain as well.
I'm sure I'll pass this on to my daughter too.

And the newest addition to my closet: a vintage Girl Scouts' Uniform!
