So here's what happened.
I took my camera to work so that I could use it later in the day. I took it out of my car 1) so it wouldn't be in the heat and 2) because there has been a series of break-ins in the parking lot.
Oh, the irony.
I was folding boxes, and I noticed a guy standing outside the office, looking in through the glass. People often get lost in this building, and he didn't look menacing or anything, so I asked him if I could help him. He said he was looking for "Jack Industries". I told him I don't know where that is, but he should check the other wings, and the other floors. I went to throw out the boxes.
That's when I heard our office door slam. I found the guy behind my desk. Again I asked him if I could help him--this time I was rude. He started saying he was looking for something...that's when he dropped my wallet at his feet. I grabbed it, he ran. I saw he had taken my camera.
This isn't just your regular point-and-shoot. It's a Nikon Coolpix 5400. Sure, it's not the D70, but a year ago it cost me a pretty penny and it has all the features I need. And the bag he took also contained accessories such as a 512MB Compact Flash card, extra batteries.........
I stopped him in the hall. "You have my camera!", I shouted at him, hoping someone would hear. He said he didn't have it, that it fell beside my desk. He showed me his jacket, and I was searching for a bulge somewhere on his person that could have been my camera. I didn't see anything.
I don't remember if he ran, or I turned around, but in any case--he was gone. My camera was gone. By that time someone from my office came out that had heard me shouting, and we ran after him, but he was gone.
Now I have to haggle with the insurance company about the difference between replacement value and what I paid in the first place. And I have to wait until they process the claim to replace the camera, because I don't know how much they'll give me.
I was angry with the whole situation at first, but now I just feel incredibly violated. And stupid. I need to learn to be less trusting of people.
Goddammit, he should have just taken the wallet.

Fuck insurance companies.
And thank you for understanding that I just feel like feeling like crap right now over the breakup.
I'm bummed but I'll get better.
I recall Dogslife saying he wanted to find the guy and bruise his knuckles on the lad's spine. The thief better hope Nathan finds him before I do.
I have a singularly merciless outlook on anybody who touches somebody else's stuff.
