I'm working on the lighting design for Cul-de-sac by Daniel MacIvor. Good show, terrible production. Honestly, while trying to make this show more edgy these kids (second year university) have made it the most boring piece of theatre I've seen in years. First off, they've changed this one man show about appropriating and re-telling stories into a seven actor play. Right there you've got a serious problem. Then, every character has become a caricature, and is played on the same note the entire time they speak--so you tune out and just hear the blah-de-blah-blah of them talking for 15 minutes. And the director is adding all these embellishments in action that do not have to be there. Characters speaking to each other about props and their cues--because it's so META--don't you GET it?!?!.
All the amazing ideas I had when I read the script are useless and will just drag the show on longer. I am ill prepared for my hang today, but I just don't care.
Last night we had a late Christmas at Oryx's. Her delicious veggie lasagna and Caesar salad (with homemade croutons!) was followed by Margaret Atwood's Baked Lemon Custard, Radiant City and some very lively discussion about suburban sprawl.
Poochie's on the mend (she came down with kennel cough last week), and my cold feels like it's finally giving up. Perhaps I will go jogging tomorrow. Finally.
For your amusement: Lomo from the honeymoon.
And if you haven't had enough.

I did see the Plott Hound - a lovely dog. Have you checked out the breed competition videos on the Westminster site? Pretty cool! We got all weepy with dog love watching the show.
(I've never seen such beautiful wedding pictures as yours. Hope you & the guy are blissfully happy. )
