alright kids, it's time for another movie review corner! first off i will discuss django unchained. so stoked about the concept when i heard about it, and my excitement just grew to the point that i spend the day before the movie annoying everybody by singing the django song. and at first i thought my expectations were about to be exceeded, because the opening was fucking awesome. the style and subject just meshed really well, it was like a big tarantino orgasm. i really loved the blending of culture, that it was a western about a slave that takes place in the south and parallels a german legend. however i think when a film mirrors a fairy tale it is allowed to be simple, which this movie started out as, but the end was so dragged out and overly complicated. and SPOILER alert for whatever reason the biggest villian was made out to be another slave, which was fucking stupid. always weird with tarantino and the racism thing, and the man cannot act for shit, his cameos make me whince. also the soundtrack was close to perfect, but some of it was so wrong, so very very wrong.
then there was the fucking hobbit. holy fuck did i love the hobbit, even though i found a lot of fault with it. i am a huge lotr person, and i was therefore torn on how i felt about the movies many similarities to lotr. i do not think the difference in tone between the books was illustrated enough, and of course some of the re-writing made little sense. a lot of the action scenes had serious issues. and of course i am very confused as to how it is going to work as a whole movie series. naturally some parts were just too cheesy, and i hope this diminishes as bilbo's attitude grows more adventurous and heroic. we shall see what happens in mirkwood!
next time: i reveal that gangster squad is over the top
