it's just past dawn, the frogs in the pond across the street have finally begun to go to sleep.
i woke up thinking about labor day.
what a farce! we celebrate labor day, but every facet of modern american business revolves around finding ways to screw their labor force as fast, hard, and deeply as possible.
nobody, not even a single person with no dependents, can live on minimum wage anywhere in the country, but congress, spurred by big business, continues to keep down the minimum wage, fostering a generation of people who find survival depends on welfare, which bankrupts our cities.
thousands of special interest groups have turned the education budgets of every state into behemoths built on administrative positions, rather than teaching positions.
young people no longer know the security that loyalty to one's employer used to bring. gone are the days when you joined a company and rose through the ranks, confident that they would take care of you when retirement came, or you got sick.
today, as soon as you reach a salary level that you can live on, you can bet you will be "down-sized" so they can hire someone just out of school to replace you at half the price.
