arrive Wednesday night 20 minutes early
watch her approach my gate with worry in her eye
(I'm already outside)
sneak up on her trailing her scent
she jumps we kiss exit
the Q33 arrives like a chariot
get off in Queens and take the 7 to Grand Central Station
search out coffee and cookies and grab a taxi
home to 4th Street
bubbles and music and lovemaking
morning she gets the coffee and we talk
come to a deeper understanding
(for we are always on the 'threshold of revelation)'
make out and make her late for work
and I realize I can't leave the apartment
(left my keys behind)
go back to sleep wake clean
she comes home unhappy (work sucks)
we cuddle and get high and go walking
buy wine at Discovery
where I meet a new wine buddy
drinking sex
more wine later from Alphabet City Wine Co.
the drunk salesperson tells us about her impending break up
my girl offers hugs
I offer an ill-timed observation
finish the last bottle of wine
relinquish conscience
Friday morning more sex
off to work for her
I wander the Village
it's quiet but at least not raining
walk Uptown racing from corner to corner
looking for the fastest way through the crowd
(one of my favorite NYC games)
at Butterfield 8 waiting for her to finish tending bar
watching the bozos boozing in suits
nothing but empathy for her agony
leave and draw up a list of everything to arrange for the evening
we get home
both exhausted
and realize
there's no time for resting
walk to get presents for the fifth grade graduation
stop on the way home for a cone
clean up
head out
meet one of her fairy rock children and his parents
(she has a huge extended family)
after sushi race off to the Bowery
a reception for some actor friends
which is bizarrely flat and under dramatic
go home make love fall asleep
wake
eager for the Museum Of Natural History
breakfast coffee taxi to Penn Station meet James
catch the C which deposits us near a stairway entrance to our destination
fifteen dollars each she pays for our donation
up to the fourth floor and the dinosaurs
she watches us geek out on T Rex and giant turtles
we hurtle through two more floors
take a lunch break
and have three sandwiches a couple waters a tea and two coffees for forty dollars
(God bless NYC prices)
we head back recharged and continue
to charge through the crowds and the different rooms
(each with our own favorite)
ending with a journey through space and time
from the Big Bang to now
plow through two gift shops find nothing
go to the Borders near Penn Station
James buys 'Black Hole'
(today's comic book recommendation)
head back to the trains
hear a steel drum played poorly
he leaves on the LIRR's track 18
we head back downtown intent on ecstasy
