Steelers fans were still in shock with the news on Friday that Tyler Mosienko had left the club with immediate effect at his own request. Tyler had spend just over 2 years with the club playing 141 games and scoring 61 goals and 89 assists. It was Halloween weekend and for the Coventry Blaze it was well and truly a horror show with 2 big wins for the Sheffield Steelers. Starting off with the Steelers final challenge cup group B game the Steelers having already qualified for the quarter finals gave back up netminder Brad Day the start while at the other side of the ice was the netminder the Steelers love to hate Brian Stewart. Halfway through the 1st period Colton Fretter would open the scoring for the Steelers. Former Steeler Jim Jorgensen would level the scores but 52 seconds later Fretter would get his 2nd of the game and 11 seconds Mathiew Roy would make it 3-1 to the Steelers at the end of the 1st period. Brian Stewart would not return for the 2nd period and would not play a part in the rest of the weekend Renny Marr replaced him in goal. The Blaze would come back with goals from Garrett Koltz and Liam Stewart to tie the game at 3-3 but that would be the closest the Blaze would get as Levi Nelson put the Steelers back into the lead. Then came the moment of the game Liam Kirk at only 16 years old would score his first ever Steelers goal causing the crowd of 6000 Steelers fans to go wild. Matt Marquardt would score a penalty shot to pull a goal back for the Blaze but Mike Ratchuk would have the final say in the 2nd period scoring with 20 seconds to go to end the period at 6-4. Luke Ferrara would score short handed and Jesse Schultz would make it 8-4. Marc Cantin would get one more goal for the Blaze but it would be the Steelers who would get the final goal of the game through John Armstrong for the final score Steelers 9 Blaze 5. The victory means that the Steelers will finish top of group B and will fact the team that finishes 4th in group A (either Braehead Clan or Edinburgh Capitals) as for the Blaze they now need to win there final 2 group games and hope that the Manchester Storm lose both there remaining games to go through. On Sunday both teams met again at the SkyDome in league action with John Armstrong scoring a hat trick as the Steelers romped to a 6-1 win.
My man of the match - It has to go to Liam Kirk
Next up - It's a Scottish away double next weekend as the Steelers will face Edinburgh on Saturday and Dundee on Sunday
