I went to When the Rain Stops Falling last night at the Playhouse (which is at the Opera House for those not Sydneysiders). It is by the australian playwright Andrew Bovell and it was fantastic. I have never seen such a complex story - 4 generations of the same family - interwoven so well and without any narration. As the play goes on and you realise more and more of the links between these supposedly separate vignettes you are seeing the impact and power of the drama becomes immense. In the end - with all the different strands drawn together in a bitter-sweet finale - the play leaves you feeling absolutely drained; exhausted from the emotions that have washed through you; loss; love; longing; desire; the sense of life run wrong and away from you.
The play was so good I've decided to round up some friends and go back before it finished on the 13th of June.
If you can get to it i would suggest that it is worth every cent of the cost of a ticket.
