Here's a rundown of what happened this weekend:
I stayed home from school to collect all the advance tickets from everyone since I was the only person able to go to Toronto and hand them in and go to the meeting to discuss our set time for The Opera House. Johanna was heading into Toronto too so I met up with her on the train...
We parted and I caught a cab to Natalie's place. I met her new pet ferretts and had some healthy mint brownies and ice cream sandwiches, they were awesome. Not long later we headed over to the Speakeasy for the meeting. Apparently only selling 6 tickets isn't good at all. So we got the last set time at like 1 am when the show started at 5 pm. I was pretty pissed off about that... I'll get into how shitty the show was later.
After the meeting we headed up to Queen and went to Hosu Sushi and had some wicked bento boxes and unagii. I went and bought the Tom Green Show box set from back in his small time Ottawa show days. When I went to go pull out another $20 to get into the Spiral Beach show the bank wouldn't let me. We had to walk around for like 2 hours trying every bank machine until finally a CIBC machine let me pull out a 20.
We got to the Drake Hotel like 10-20 after 9 and got there just as Pony Up! started. That place is nice, not an atmosphere I'm use to seeing shows in. Lots of gorgeous girls around too. Pony Up! was great live but their cd isn't that great, but they're releasing a new one soon so maybe all the good songs I heard are going on that one. Natalie's friend Ryan was working the door so we got in free. I was wearing my Uh Oh! shirt and he was amazed to see it because he apparently worked on that show. Spiral Beach was fucking crazy good. I've never heard such a weird kind of music and their weird movements on stage are crazy. I want Maddie their singer so bad now after seeing her. All around an A+ show.
We got back to Natalies and watched Tom Green until like 3 am.
I got up at 9 am the next morning to go to work with Natalie at the Love Shack. Working in a porno shop seems friggin fun, pay isn't so good though. We closed down the store 3 times for rediculous reasons. The first time we closed down for over an hour to get coffee with Nat's mom. Then later to check out the music store up the street. Then later because Natalie decided that she wanted to clean out a little condom bucket we found and turn it to a fish bowl, so we had to get a fish.
Natalie is huge!:
I discovered the most painful thing in the world: shaving with a 35 cent razor with no water in a closet with no light, only a flashlight, in the closet in a porno shop. There's nothing about it that's right.
at 5 that Ryan guy I talked about earlier came in to relieve Natalie, he works there too incidentally. He told me that if he found some extra Uh Oh! shirts he'd let me have them.
I waited around forever for Moleman to call me to tell me they're in town so I could walk up to The Opera House for the show. At like 10:30 I got there. Some really really shit bands played before us and cleared the place out so by the time we played the place was empty except for us and like 2 people who left halfway through our set. One cute chick was eyeing me the whole time but her friends dragged her out like 2 songs into our set. fuck eh. I stopped trying halfway through and I felt like shit because it was such a nice venue and nobody saw us play. I actually heard the place echo between our songs.
