Four days ago, an 8 month old Chocolate Labrador puppy arrived at the animal hospital where my friend works as a veterinarian. The puppy, was in critical condition and hadn't been able to eat or drink in over 5 days after having ingested a long piece of carpet. The only option was to surgically remove the obstruction which was extremely risky and expensive. The owner couldn't afford the cost of the surgery and had no choice but to opt to put the dog down. My friend decided to perform the surgery and pay for it himself as he couldn't bear to put the puppy to sleep.
The surgery took 5 hours to remove the obstruction which required removing part of the stomach and intestine. I visited my friend the day after the surgery and after hearing about this, asked to see the pup in person so we drove to the clinic to see how he was recovering. It was heart breaking to see this poor little pup in such a condition and I told my friend I would be happy to look after the dog at my house during it's recovery and he ended up dropping him off at my place the following day.
I have been looking after him for 2 days now and am happy to report LT (the dogs name) is doing well. He has been eating and drinking which is a good sign he is healing and doing much better. I took some pictures this afternoon and thought I would share them with everyone. LT is a 8 month old male chocolate Labrador Retriever. As you can see from the pictures he is such a gorgeous little guy. My friend called me a little while ago to tell me the owner was able to raise the money to cover the cost of the surgery and that he will be picking his dog up tomorrow. I'll be sad to see him go but am just happy this guy is going to live and have a long life.
Here is LT...
