Just want to give a shout out to Agy, a super-hot and newly minted SG, who encouraged me to start blogging. We'll start with the latest news in my life and then see where my free-associational ramblings take me. Who knows, by the end of this I could be recommending how to arrange cranberry sauce or the possibility of an effective exit strategy from the Middle East.
Just got my first tat. I posted a photo below, but you can also see a sketch of the proceedings done by my very talented roommate, Mike.
The piece itself is a statement of the sustainability of my home state/culture (it's called the "Acadiana Self Reliance Symbol"). It's a fantastic merging of imagery (some more symbolic than others) that synthesizes into a beautiful encapsulation of what it means to live and love south-central Louisiana. Of course, I actually live in New Orleans right now. I grew up West of here in the middle of Cajun country (which accounts for most of my heritage), and though I left the state to go to college, I amazingly found myself drawn back here. It's something I can't explain in the least.
(Note: the design is not my own and was developed originally by the sweet tshirt designing crew that is Dirty Coast.)
I love this state; this city. Even as I go to bed now, I can hear a concert somewhere in the distance. This city is just like that. There's always music floating through the ether and beckoning you into the night. You often don't know where or what the source is. No matter, though. You can always just sit back and drink it in... with more rum than you can shake a stick at...
Speaking of rum, I've just discovered my new drink: Dark and Stormy. It's two parts ginger beer (who even knew such a thing existed?) and one part dark rum. Man, it's a beautiful thing.
Ok, now I'm going to bed.
