I don't post on kfm's fanart threads, but I did post a pic of my fanfic main character, Lal, a while back on the main page. To a small degree, I'm re-doing Lal's appearance, however. When I first started writing Lal, I had in my head several images based on actresses and a porn model...ahem. Basically, Monica Bellucci, Elizabeth Hurley and Veronika Zemanova (I'd link an image, but most of them are from untrustworthy sites).
The last pencil drawing I did of Lal came out looking like a cross between Hurley and bellucci, whereas the one I submitted for KFM looked closer to Zemanova. I prefer the Hurley/Bellucci one now, so that's the look I'll go for in future pics.
I didn't like the Carth or the Canderous pic I did, so I'm redoing them both as well. But I like how Bastila and Juhani and Mission turned out. They're in the process of inking.
As to what I use, well, that's Photoshop 7 (I never felt CS was worth the upgrade since I don't tend to do photo work). I draw by hand and scan in the pencils to Photoshop. For a long time, I had no photoshop at all, and colored stuff on the page with Tombow, Staedtler and Marvy markers. That used to look okay until I scanned it in. The tremendous resolution capabilities of even the average scanner made the colors look very, very bad.
So, I taught myself how to color in Photoshop once I got it. And then, since I am most comfortable working in a comic book style, I learned how to digitally ink as well in Photoshop. Still learning, of course. I find tutorials on the web every so often. Renderosity.com has a lot of tutorials that come in handy, but most of them are for 3D programs.
I guess another reason I don't post on KFM is because of personal preference with art: I've settled into a comic book style (that was one style I used, but not the only one in the past) and in my mind, Star Wars art should be more...photorealistic. That is, more like the cover art on a novel or movie poster than the stuff I do. But I just said, "Screw it, this is what I'm best at" and decided to go comic book style art, with inking and comic style coloring and so forth.
The next thing I need to get a better grasp on is color theory.
I wish I'd listened more to my mother about it. She was an art teacher, and I get my skills from her, really. But when she was alive, I never really listened to her. Too late now, of course. I'd have liked for her to see the stuff I can do now.
When I get finished with this pic, I intend to submit it at kfm, but I prolly won't post it in the fanart boards.
Do you have a fanfic you've written for the game? Or are in the process of writing? Mine used to be up on the old site Adria ran, but cutting and pasting it into the upload panel at kfm would be far too much work, so I just put it up here. Feel free to give me some feedback if you wish. I'll do the same if you've got a story up.
