Just finished talking with the ex-grrl. These sort of confrontations usually involve lots of mutual misunderstanding and unnecessary emotional outbursts, but this one was different. To set it up for you (random reader), after a couple years dating this girl, I developed a laundry list of "irreparable differences," and in spite of a disposition that is patience to a fault, I finally gave up. She was just too parochial (when are we going to get mahr-reed?) in the end and a post-breakup capricious trip to Miami for her proved fruitful. I'm not sure if she met the Dalai Lama out there or what, but she finally seems to understand that I do actually have intellectual and emotional (as well as the obvious physical) needs, and in turning up tonight at my pad, did not stormily demand a return of my attentions. In fact, apart from clearing up a few chronic misunderstandings of the past, she seemed content to just talk about the book I am reading, and vise-versa. No craziness. Like two old friends, really. Only one week after what I expected to be a very difficult breakup, it seems that we've both made our best decisions in recent memory. Funny, really, seems that all I had to do to get my girlfreind to be a true friend to me, was to break up with her.
