Five-Minute fiction - 00:10-00:15
Dominic slid down the embankment, the dew-slick grass leaving a a trail down the back of his uniform. His boots sunk into the muddy water at the bottom of the ditch but he was up and running before he even noticed the squelching. Voices rose from the edge of the woods, more than a dozen distinct tones cried out as they moved closer.
Here! Hes here! the cry sounded and he heard the crashing of movement through the undergrowth as a uniformed figure burst from the cover of the forest and charged toward him. The man held his rifle close to his chest as he stepped and sprang down the embankment. Dominic, stop!
The characteristic sound of the bolt of a rifle snapping back cut through the silence but Dominic didnt spare a look over his shoulder. He cut sharply and began to veer, almost drunkenly, back and forth as he ran toward the next copse of trees. More voices filled the air as more and more figures burst through the cover of the trees and pressed on.
Mud, grass and dew sprang into the air as a bullet whizzed by and tore a rent
