Five-Minute fiction - 23:54-23:59
Wind stirred the trees sending leaves down onto the path. The three men shifted uneasily, their eyes endlessly scanning, their hands rested heavily on their swords.
Hes late, Tyson said. Hes always late!
It was to be expected, but it would have been worse had we been less punctual and he arrived to not find us waiting here to greet him, Alabaster said. He patted the flanks of his horse attempting to calm the creatures frazzled nerves. The forest was no place for man or beast and animals seemed more susceptible to the emanations.
Coffee? Hastley asked. He presented the capped thermos and Tyson took it. His hand trembled visibly and Alabaster knew the old man would not be long for this world. He had given too many years to the service of the Gallows and each year took ten off his life.
