Five-Minute fiction - 23:33-23:38
Danner felt the energy course up his limbs and he had to fight with every measure of his strength to control it. Flames licked at his hands, alighting on the skin but neither burning it nor his clothes. The fire was ethereal, real but unreal. He staggered as the force of energy grew and he sought to release it.
The cancerous dog Thur pushed his way through the clinging foliage and Danner saw glint of steel in his hands.
Cannonade! Danner screamed as the man appeared.
Fire leap from his hands, springing forth like a living beast let loose from its chains. It snarled at the air, crackling and popping as it seared its way toward the Thur. The man tried to raise his sword to deflect the blow but the intensity of the fire was too much. Cold steel turned to molten slag as the wave of fire washed over the man. He screamed but the roaring fire stole his voice, silencing him forever as it invaded his throat and turned him to dust.
Danner reeled. His hands clenched and unclenched as he fought the rising swell as it strove to overtake him again.
