So...I've been terrible with this blog thing. I keep telling myself that it is something I should stay on and keep up with. So once again I'm going to attempt to do just that and make this more often.
Guess what is weighing on me right now is the many changes over the past year....
For many years ever since high school I taught high school drummers. I did this off and on for the past 17 years. The last stint ended this year, this past spring to be exact. I had held that position for the past four years.
Those four years were the best in my teaching career. I began with a couple of sophomores and a bunch of freshmen. Those freshmen graduated this past spring...it was hard to see them go. Not having any kids of my own at this time, I looked upon those kids as mine. I watched them grow over four years time. From nervous freshman to confident seniors moving out into the world. And now to see many of them moving into college music programs really touches me.
And that's saying something...I've always been the rough gruff guy...but needless to say I had to have some time alone after our last time together. Can't let that stuff be seen...
So after last spring that high school closed and was consolidated into a new system...the new system was being directed by someone new and he had his own person. So now it seems that I am into retirement again. Probably for good.
So I look back at the past four years and the many years before that and see the prospect of never doing it again....let's face it I'm past my prime in that area for someone that doesn't do it professionally. I guess in one aspect I can still see the hundreds of kids that I have taught over the years and hope that during my time with each of them they learned at least one thing that helped them in their life and I can always keep that with me...
