Friday:
Despite giving him his meds as directed, kitty isn't feeling better, in fact he seems worse. I call the vet but oh wait, it's noon and he takes a two-hour lunch break! (WTF?) The tech tells me I can come in the next morning. I figure he'll be OK one more night. But in the mean time he needs toys so I put him in his box to take him to Petsmart. We get into the car and I let him out of the box to explore. He's been lethargic and not kitten like since he started the meds. But when he's in a new place he perks up.
He's walking around the car and sneezes. I notice some mucus and clean it up. Then he sneezes violently three times. This time there's blood with the mucus. I panicked. I called the emergency vet. They say bring him in. So off we go. I called the
Primary. He answered the phone and all I could do was sob into it. Glad he has caller ID. He looked up stuff from the tubes to reassure me I wasn't overreacting. It was nice to be comforted.
We were there for three hours. They took his blood. The in house labs said his white blood count was a bit low, so the vet said he'd send it to the normal lab for more complete tests and he'd call me Saturday with the results. Yeah, I'm still waiting for them.
In the mean time he got fluids and I watched "The Wizard of Oz" and "Barnyard Animals." I also saw people who didn't know how to control their animals. It seems silly to complain that your large dog is a "moose" when obviously you haven't taught him to behave. But I also saw a girl in tears because she had to leave her cat overnight. I wanted to comfort her.
In the end they gave us giant pills, a can of baby food (turkey, he doesn't seem interested) and a $250 bill. Like he's going to take those damn horse pills even if I hide them in his food (although he's not really eating so that wouldn't do any good).
It was a trying day so I took him to Petsmart, outside his box. He enjoyed it for the most part and was very good until we got to the counter and he wanted to explore.
Here are his toys:
I bought the feature duster at Target. He also got a harness and leash. He's not super excited about walking but he likes going out so maybe we'll compromise.
