So Gambitgirlie has been putting in some hospital time these last few days....
On Tuesday I had a myelegram, in which two large and very painful needles are inserted into my spinal column and a reactive dye injected. Then they do x-rays and a CAT scan to see if there is an obstruction in the way the dye flows in the canal where my spinal cord runs. Then they keep you in the hospitaliano (which sadly has nothing to do with The Olive Garden) for 8 hours to make sure there are no ill effects from railroad spikes being driven into your spine.
The results are as follows:
The spinal injury I suffered almost six years ago is causing degeneration at an alarming rate and is effecting the spinal disc above the area I had surgically fused about 3 years ago. That means more pain, nerve damage and loss of sensation in both my legs.
Bleh.
I can wait to see if it gets better on its own, or try another surgery (this would be number three!) and hope it improves or at least stabilizes the situation.
Neither is a very promising option.
I took 2 weeks off of work to lay flat on my back and see if there is improvement, and I go and see my nuerosurgeon tomorrow morning to evaluate all options.
Wish me luck!
