Time for something a bit more light-hearted and fun..
What is Your Fortune?
“You will enjoy good health.”
“A pleasant surprise is waiting for you.”
“You’ll never know what you can do until you try.”
These are the pearls of wisdom that are printed on small slips of paper and delivered in a thin, folded cookie shell. They provide a brief moment of pleasure or humor at the end a meal. We break into a fortune cookie, read the small slip of paper and usually experience a little smile.
The best moment though, is the next one. We share our fortunes with our companions. Sometimes we just pass them back and forth, but more often we go around the table and read them out loud. There’s even that little game where we add “in bed” to the end of the fortune.
Chinese fortune cookies are fun because in that moment part of us believes that slip of paper may come true. What if we could hold onto that moment? Imagine transforming that moment of inspiration and promise into the actual pursuit of a goal.
Here’s a good game to play – especially when things aren’t going so well or your dreams seem out of reach. Pick up dinner from your local Chinese restaurant and check out your fortune. Instead of just enjoying that moment, think of a practical way to apply the saying in your life.
“You will enjoy good health.” Try to eat better or exercise more.
“Your mind is creative, original and alert.” Go to a museum.
“You’ll never know what you can do until you try.” Learn a new skill.
A fortune doesn’t just have to be a piece of paper or a chuckle at the end of a meal. It could be the start of something bigger and better. That moment of promise can last a lifetime and inspiration can come from anywhere. It can even come from a cookie.
The next time you’re feeling a little down, go out for Chinese and check out your fortune.
