Well, the old picture was pushing 2 years old. So even though this one isn't so philosophical-looking, it's not that bad, and I figured it was high time for an update.
Though, I feel like updating here carries with it the whole weary burden of having to respond to stuff in groups, too. Maintaining an internet social life is hard! Especially when I'm having enough trouble finding time to have a real life social life (just ask SaintInsomniac how many times he's run into me out and about since moving to DC, and we mostly get along). Plus, when I update here, I can't pretend to myself that I've got an army of loyal but lurking readers.
So, one of my friends has decided to take it upon himself to plan a bachelor party for me (it's not the sort of thing where I'm going to have a best man). I'm not sure how well this is giong to work out. See, I always end up saying that I'm not into the standard b-party staples of strippers and porn. But this gives the wrong impression. What I'm not into is overdyed blond strippers who, despite my best attempts at not being paternalistic, just make me sad for them (the SG burlesque was hot), and I'm not into standard gyno-cam-closeup mainstream porn (Andrew Blake and Abby Winters stuff is hot). I end up sounding like a prude nonetheless, by the time I'm done explaining myself - when a quick glance at my group memberships will show that, if anything, I am consumed with a self-image as a libertine. But anyway. The upshot is that he's now trying to come up with alternative ideas. I hear that renting a cabin for the weekend so we can binge drink and play D&D has been floated.
Most pathetic bachelor ever, yup. Maybe I should just say that I want strippers.
So that's been the high point of my week. Oh, and my mom took it upon herself to buy me a new dress outfit for my (hopeful) interviews at the APA conference. Much as I hate to walk around saying, "yeah, my mom bought me this outfit" at my advanced age, it actually looks pretty nifty on me. It's very professorial. It has a tweed jacket.
So, happy thoughts. What's been the high point of *your* week, then?

i love the image of a bachelor party of drinking and d&d. that's so geeky. what would you be drinking? (i don't know what d&d players drink.)
a tweed jacket! that's perfect. with elbow patches, i hope.
my high point: being told that a letter i sent someone made his millenium.
