All of the things you want to do before you die. When someone asks what is on yours, or when they start listing off theirs, it's always a grand list of mystical locations that you'd love to visit in far off lands, or measures of material success in life. I was guilty of that. I had things like "Go to Egypt and see the Great Pyramids" or "Explore Easter Island" etc... and those aren't bad goals in life. I'm not trying to say that at all...
But...
..with an inevitable fate for my dad closing in quickly on him (and us) I see the idea of a Bucket List much differently now. I'm leaving travel to far off places and exploring the man made and natural wonders of the world on there...but they've dropped to the bottom. I added some that are far more important to me now. They may not be glamorous or even remotely exciting...in all honesty, they are mundane. But they fit the definition of a Bucket List...they are things that I want to do before I die. And they are far more important than traveling the world.
Here they are...my new list toppers.
* Marry my best friend
* Be able to put my daughter through college
* Have the sort of relationship with my kids that I always wanted with my parents, but never had
* Start eating healthier
* Start exercising regularly
* Take up archery
* Start doing Tai Chi again
* Get into a Krav Maga class
* Run a 5K
I'm not shooting for the stars, obviously...but I've realized the past few days, that these are the things that will make me happy in this life. Happiness is an elusive beast most days, but I can see an end to that.
