Well... time for answers.

Last blog, I asked for questions to get my brain moving. I didn't get too many responses to that. Only one, actually. dmac not only asked a question, she picked up the slack for at least one other person by asking two questions... two good ones at that...

1. If given the choice between the super power of flight or invisibility, which would you pick and why?

The answer is the power of flight. Hands down. Absolutely.

I, like a good chunk of the rest of the population, have had the "flying dream" since I was a kid. I've never experienced a dream rush quite like soaring through the clouds, or dive bombing playground bullies. Never once growing up did I dream that I was invisible. My timid nature already brought me as close to that as I needed to be at a young age anyhow. Though I did have a few dreams that I was able to breathe under water. Those dreams come in a close second to the flying dream.

If given the chance to experience that in reality, even for a fleeting moment, it would be tough to resist.

2. If you could do any other job than the one you've got right now, (assuming you're gainfully employed, of course) what job would you like to do and why?

I am, in fact, employed. I wouldn't call it gainful at the moment, but that proves to change in the relatively near future.

This was a tougher question to answer than the first. For years I've danced around the idea of going to grad school, but for what? That's always been the stumbling block. I did my undergrad work in psychology, and at times I think I might want to bite the bullet and make a move for the PhD... then I remember that by the time I got my BA, I wasn't all that into the psych thing anymore. I do get a little bit of a rush when I'm able to use my limited education to help a friend. I think counseling would be a fun career, but I can see where it might also take a toll. That leaves me with picking a hobby as a full time means of earning a dime. The temptation is to say Rock Star. But I don't think I'd enjoy that the way the me of my 20's would. I like to go to bed early. That's totally contrary to the lifestyle. I like making genuine conections with people as well, so the whole groupie thing would only serve to annoy the living shit out of me. I'd find myself living out the lyrics to Pink Floyd's "Have A Cigar"... I don't need a bunch of slick executive/promoter/producer types feeding me a line of shit. I'd rather do the feeding.

I think I'd choose Record Producer as the one job I'd like to do most. I'd never have to leave the house (there are some mighty killer studios in basements all over the country), I could make my own hours. I like slicing and dicing and tweaking and tuning audio tracks. In my band, I've found that I enjoy the recording/mixing process far more than the business of playing bass. It's way more fun. Not only do I get to make my mark with the parts that I write and play, I can put my stamp on the whole song, doing whatever I wish with everyone else's tracks. I dig it. I just need a computer that won't start smoking and spitting fire when I start layering in the effects.

</Q&A>

We'll try this one more time... throw me some questions, and I'll ramble on with a long winded answer. If nothing else, it'll keep me occupied for a while, which is the main goal. At the moment, I need something happening in my brain other than the shit that's been going on in there for the past three weeks... too much more of this, and my head will pop like a plump little tick.

Mahalo,
-Uncle Galaxy

dmac:
Yeah, the midwest work ethic is a bitch. There does seem to be something of a generational perspective on this. Many, MANY of the 20-somethings in my office are proud to admit their laziness and their commitment to doing as little as possible to get by. They are also, incidentally, the biggest whiners when they don't get fantastic raises and can't understand why they're not being better paid. whatever Drive me crazy.....

Okay, next batch of questions biggrin

Does the fact that you've never done something before increase or decrease its appeal to you?

How do you react when people sing "Happy Birthday" to you in a restaurant?

If you could choose the manner of your death, how would you exit this life?

Ready? Set? GO!
