"I'm dead as dead can be,
My doctor tells me.
But I just can't believe him,
Ever the optimistic one."
When last I blogged, my continued involvement with the band was in question. I've decided to give it another go before giving up. I'll cite one of our few common influences and the diversity of one of their records when I bring my songs to the table. I don't do the jingle-jangle acoustic guitar bullshit of the stereotypical singer/songwriter. I really like my music to be a little more complex than that. I've been too passive over the last few months in stating my vision for what we could become.
"I'm sure of
Your ability
To become
My perfect enemy"
The last time we got together to play, we were told by our singer that he had outgrown "math rock" in favor of the more sophisticated folky ballads that deliver a solid message of blah blah blah blah... whatever. The elitist attitude and narrow minded assesment of what we like kind of pissed me off. I want to create music, he wants to write songs. If we bring the two together, we have something worth checking out. Just one or the other and we'll be boring as fuck.
"So wake up
And face me
Don't play dead
'Cause maybe
Some day
I will walk away and say,
'You fucking disappoint me'
Maybe you're better off this way..."
We'll either find compromise or they'll get a new bass player and I'll seek out the right group of musicians to keep me interested. Either way, I'm done with the passive aggressive bullshit...

ferretbite:
If you leave, you should do something to the drums. Maybe release some termites or something. Just for kicks.
