i'm sorry i didn't answer your question some time ago, the rug is the thickest yarn i could find, which is a blend of mostly acrylic with some wool. not down with wool so much.....but....
it's hard to find animal free yarn around. i could search online, but i need to feeeeel the yarn.

There are definitely ways to live that don't cause so much destruction of the planet, just modern folks don't really live those ways, probably because often they're not comfortable. For instance, right now there is no heat in my apartment. And terrible insulation, thermometer says it's 60F in here, but I am sure it's colder. If the heater were on, we'd be using so much electricity, and everyone else is too... It is easy to think that the best thing for humans to do is to be wiped off the planet, but I prefer to idealistic and believe that we are here, so surely we have a place and a right to be here, just like other forms of life.
Composting your waste to help your garden/any soil actually improves the soil quality. There are natural toothpastes/shampoos that can be bought (or made very simply) that don't harm the water, and you could use collected rain water or water flowing from a spring or something similar to bathe in or brush your teeth. It's just about comfort I think, but I also feel we're getting to a point where it's not going to matter much what is comfortable as opposed to what is sustainable. Humans have lived fine for thousands of years,it's only recently they started to really fuck up.
