Since I live in the UK I have found myself in the position that I get to see Thor before audiences in the U.S..
I have good news! They haven't screwed it up!
I have bad news! They've made some changes you might not like.
Anthony Hopkins is great as Odin. He may be getting on in years but still has a commanding screen presence perfect for the Allfather.
Chris Hemsworth is good as Thor. He starts off arrogant but learns humility during the course of the film. And boy does he look the part in costume!
Natalie Portman is suitably feisty in the role of Jane Foster, but doesn't really get to do much.
Tom Hiddleston is suitably slimy as Loki, but doesn't really seem menacing enough to be the movie's main villain.
The majority of the remaining supporting cast do the best they can with what they're given.
The Destroyer & the Frost Giants look fantastic. There are HUGE battle scenes that rival anything previously committed to celluloid. Asgard is epic in scale, and the Bifrost Bridge is gorgeous.
NONE of this needs to be in 3D. Save your money if you have a choice in your local cinema; go for the 2D version.
